How to Make a Very Special Paper Medal

1. Draw your medal on an ordinary piece of paper.

2. Cut it out with ordinary scissors.

3. Still cutting. Take your time. Be careful with the scissors.

4. Give it to the one you love and followed by an ordinary big hug. Tell them how much you love them. Your paper medal is no longer ordinary. It has now become a very special paper medal :)

From Scout Badges to Military Medals

This is my childhood collection of girl scout badges (and you can see I was quite an active girl scout back in those days). Some of them were given after certain tasks were completed, just like how the colonel earned his medal in my story, but some were friendship badges which means that you swop them with someone you have made friends with at camp.

And this is a picture of the medals I used as a collage in my picturebook. I made them all by sewing the trimmings with vintage brooches I found from Portobello Market. It was like a treasure-hunt game. I really had no idea what I was looking for when I digged through piles and piles of brooches and pendants and medallions. They were all surprises :)

Drawing Essentials

It is very difficult, if you feel lacking in 'skills,' to give yourself permission to draw in your instinctive, natural way.
But if you allow yourself to draw 'from the heart,' you will see that nothing else is needed.

Final Project: The Medal

Family and friends in Thailand know me. They expect something like this :)

My final project is a very personal project, yet, a public affair. With this being the last project of our course, I want to produce a work that would mean something to my life and contrive to share with others what I think is important.

I have been working on a picturebook which is based on the political situation in my country: the imposing of 2006 coup and the military’s excessive intervention thereafter.

I would like to tell the story about a man who has been caught up in terrible situation and has to complete series of missions according to what he has been ordered to. The story takes place in a country in which the state of emergency has been declared and the coup d’etat is being carried out (although this fact is not directly stated in the story). It is a story about someone who has been morally challenged and his courage has been redefined as he stands up against what he does not believe. Also, it is simply a story about father-and-son relationship and the love between the two which clearly explains everything that happens in the end.
--SPOILER ALERT--

Summary: There was once a soldier who lived happily with his son until one day he was called in by his commander and was assigned an important mission. Everyday he had to finish different new task and each day he would come home with new medals on his chest (as suggested that he had accomplished the task). In the end, he refused to execute one really serious mission and decided to give up his career and all the medals he has been collecting, only when he came home that he found his son making him a medal. The paper medal was pinned close to his heart and it sure was the loveliest medal of all!

We are Graduating!

The class of 2011 at Cambridge School of Art is graduating :'D

And this is one of those moments when you feel happy and sad at the same time. We have no more school but we are keeping ourselves busy preparing for 'the exhibition' (which, once again, will be held in London in February and in Cambridge in March).

I'd like to take this occasion to start this blog :) to communicate with my family and friends here and back at home as well as any passerbies who would like to learn more about me and my course or even want to become friends!

You are more than welcome to have a look at the booklet or go to cambridgeMAshow.com which also features adorable works of my friends. I hope you enjoy them and if you ever make it to the exhibition, we might see each other there :)

Hello :)

You are warmly invited to our MA Degree Show!

We are all very excited about it :) Look forward to seeing you there!
